Inside our garden’s pumpkin patch this year, I learned the lesson of perseverance. Trudging through the blistering heat and then the biting cold was no fun. But if I hadn’t taken care of those plants, and if I hadn’t chosen to go out and water or prune them, then there wouldn’t have been a pumpkin harvest. The same is true for a spiritual harvest. It takes effort to walk the journey towards godliness. But if we don’t put in the effort, there will be no harvest of the soul.
